Here you will find a map of the part of the forest which the Fern Hoppers use most often. Click on the thumbnail image to open the map in a new window.
We hope that seeing the layout of our named landmarks will help you quickly get to grips with the landscape and how to get from one point to another and back out of the forest.
The grey, 2 digit numbers are the Forestry Commission ‘Compartment Numbers’ which (in areas with mature trees) you will find painted onto the tree trunks at junctions.
The numbers with dashes each side are the fire road numbers which you find in red on the white ‘signposts’ in the forest.
The back lines and numbers are our measured 6, 8 and 10 mile routes which are measured from our first meeting point in the forest, not from the Leisure Centre.
Note that, with the exception of permanent open areas, we have not attempted to distinguish between forested and cleared areas.
